Each day you will find local and national news articles that can be used with your students. At Tri County we receive the daily Boston Globe and The Sun Chronicle. Aside from print editions you may access the news organizations online through the links on the eResources and Database under Newspapers and News Sites section arranged by alphabetical listing.
You may access the Globe online using access user name: [email protected] and password LibMed16. You will also find a link to archived Globe articles in a separate link. The Sunday Chronicle does not require an additional password to read articles.

Most newspapers have sections that already work well with topics you are covering. In addition, News in Education has an entire section dedicated to daily lessons from within the Boston Globe. An example of a Science lesson is: Adhesives: wonderful and useful stickiness - The lesson plan guides students in constructing the major concepts of biomimicry and adhesives. Students use multimedia, Boston Globe articles, hands-on activities and other materials to explore the composition and usefulness of different glues. Making clear and testable questions followed by claims, evidence and reasoning is emphasized. I am certain that you will find these lessons very helpful. Please reach out to me if you need further help in finding material to meet your specific lesson goals.
Covering the “here and now” is very important. However, as you are aware, our school population is very diverse with regards to reading ability. To address the various needs and to make sure all students are challenged at their reading level, I have introduced and piloted Newsela in our school. In the next academic school year you will all be able to take advantage of the Pro membership to use with your classes. To learn more about Newsela in our school go to the "In Your Class" section.
